Not much is known about Renford's past. He is a member of the Arcubed guild, and has been since he was discovered on the shore of their island camp, badly injured and barely alive. He was only a child then (for adults landing on their island would have resulted in execution), so they took him in, fixed him up, and he was raised by a member of the guild Brotherhood, Alveolus. Quickly, Renford excelled in all his studies and raised to a level 3 (the highest level of the guild that is reachable by a pupil) quicker than any before him. He is the pride and joy of the hunters, and was offered a position in the Brotherhood but turned them down, saying he was born to hunt. Renford spends his time on the job, or studying to improve his performance on the job. He has no interest in the usual 'human' needs of friendship, love, and companionship of any kind. Relationships:
Heme:
When sent to find Kazuki, Renford was paired with Heme, who could quite possibly be his opposite. He views her as a mediocre hunter, a spoiled brat, and worst of all, a girl. However, on numerous occasions he has helped, saved, and even taught Heme how things needed to be done, which is beneficial to help her advance in the Guild. He still, however, will not recognize her as the prodigy she is-perhaps because he doesn't want his position as the best of the best to be jeopardized by a girl. Alveolus:
A member of the Brotherhood, Alveolus was the one to raise Renford when he washed up on the shore. He was his teacher, his mentor, and his father. Many other members of the Guild are highly resentful of their close relationship and feel that Renford's position might be based more on this relationship than his actual ability. Miscellaneous:
- Renford wears all dark colors, the only exceptions being the beads in his hair and his earrings. He despises bright colors.
- Renford lost his left hand when he was very young-it had to be amputated not long after he was found. He also has lost his left eye, leaving him with a large scar there, and has a large scar across the left side of his abdomen. He has no recollection of what happened to him, or where these scars came from.
- Renford has a swirled tattoo design around his upper right arm.
